 Glenn Manton in Stawell Thursday

Glenn Manton in Stawell Thursday

26/08/2008 9:44:00 AM
Former AFL player, Glenn Manton, will be in Stawell this Thursday visiting schools and conducting a session with business operators.

The session with business operators will be conducted in the foyer of the Stawell Entertainment Centre at 7.30am.

Following the session, Manton will be visiting various primary schools and speaking with children and teachers.

Glenn Manton is far from your average athlete. Having played senior AFL football for both Carlton and Essendon for 12 years, (a member of the AFL's 200 Club/1995 premiership player/Carlton life member), which saw him play in two grand finals and three night premierships, Manton embarked on a new sporting quest involving both snow and speed in 2004.

While Manton failed to qualify, as part of an Australian four man bobsleigh team, for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy, he had quite a journey trying to get there.

It would have been nice to return to Italy, the country in which he was married, albeit in the back of a bobsleigh.

With three children at the age of thirty-four it's hard to believe that much of Manton's life has been spent in the media.

Known throughout the wider community for his charity-based work (Whitelion established in 1999) Manton strikes an affinity with a large demographic.

His ability to speak publicly to corporate groups or school aged youth is renowned.

With a degree in Education, a top-selling semi autobiography (Dead Bolt 2004) amongst other publications, DVD credits and roles such as the Deputy Chair of the Melbourne Fringe (festival) Manton continually shows that he is more than just a sportsperson.

Having spent time in the favilas of Rio to the communities of the Tiwi Islands and everything in-between Manton has experienced life first hand.

Couple this knowledge of the world around him with his own unexpected personal story and you have an individual who is capable of honesty, compassion and human frailty.
