Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu has hit out at the Labor Government for trying to soften the blow of job losses in areas including Stawell.
Mr Baillieu said job losses at Motorway Tyres in Stawell and through the restructure of Department of Primary Industries Offices were part of a worrying trend across the whole of the state.
``The number of people with jobs in regional Victoria fell by 11,000 in July from the previous month and overall there are 9500 fewer jobs in regional Victoria than there were when John Brumby became Premier in 2007,'' he said.
``John Brumby said this week Victoria's economic fundamentals are as good as you'll ever get, showing his utter confusion on economic issues and contradicting his recent statement that economic conditions in Victoria were the worst in 16 years.
``Despite John Brumby's boasts that Labor has created employment in regional Victoria, jobs are actually disappearing on his watch, another sign that Labors city-centric approach is leaving regional areas of the state behind.''
Mr Baillieu said the job losses, including the 34 workers at Stawell and 70 from the DPI, reinforced alarming employment trends emerging across Victoria in recent months.
He has challenged Mr Brumby to travel to regional Victoria and explain to those who have lost their jobs what the government was planning to do to help them.
