Stawell Gold Mines held a special presentation to announce successful applicants in the Northgate Minerals Corporation Community Grants scheme.
A committee which comprised of representatives from both community and Stawell Gold Mines was impressed with the quality of applications and were encouraged with the diversity of interests within the community.
The available funds were awarded to Stawell's community in the areas of education, social and cultural interests, with funding also being received in environmental and regional community interests.
Troy Cole, general manager of the Stawell Gold Mines thanked all applicants for their efforts and encouraged unsuccessful parties to re-apply at the next round of Community Grants to be advertised later this year.
A total of 14 groups received funding through the community grants scheme. They were: Project Platypus, Stawell Secondary College, Stawell Church of Christ Men's Group, Stawell City Brass Band, Lenzone! Youth Resource Centre, Great Western Recreation Reserve Committee of Management, Stawell Regional Arts Inc, Deep Lead Progress Association, Stawell Gymnastics Club, Stawell and District Cultural Association, Skene Street School, Eventide Homes, Stawell 13 and Under Football Association and Stawell Intertwine Services.
Mr Cole said Stawell Gold Mines and Northgate Minerals Corporation were pleased to be able to support the community in such initiatives and encourage continuation of local volunteer services to such worthy projects.
