Stawell West Primary School students' enthusiasm in the Walk On Wednesday (WOW) program continues to grow as competition for term three heats up.
Students from rooms nine and seven were presented with the WOW trophy and first prize certificates for their winning efforts in term two, which saw 95 per cent of students in the classes participating in the program.
The Walk On Wednesday program, an initiative of the Grampians Pynenees Primary Care Partnership, funded through Vic Health's Walking School Bus Program, encourages students to take up the challenge of walking to school on Wednesdays.
Benefits to school students who participate in the program include building healthy exercise habits, improving road safety skills, developing independence and gaining an increased knowledge of the local neighbourhood.
The program has also helped reduce traffic problems around schools, making the area safer for all.
The healthy competition between classes at Stawell West Primary School will continue for the remainder of the school year.
