Tigers, Bulldogs go head to head

22/08/2008 9:42:00 AM
Victory to either Llewats Tigers or Caltex Bulldogs in tonight's Stawell 13 and Under Football Association grand final would cap off a remarkable season.

Both teams have featured on the bottom of the ladder at some stage during the season and have both overcome adversity to win their way through to the premiership decider.

Tigers made a late charge to finish the season in second position and following their surprise win over minor premiers Magpies, progressed straight through to tonight's final. However, it was a tougher road for Bulldogs, who were forced to win their elimination final against the disappointing Hawks outfit before sneaking home in last Friday's preliminary final over Magpies.

Bulldogs spearhead Tom O'Neill looms as the major threat to Tigers' chances tonight as the big forward has dominated some of the past clashes between the two teams. The ledger is currently level at two wins apiece, but with O'Neill having slotted through a league-high 21 goals this season, there is a definite danger in the Bulldogs' forward line.

Harry Driscoll, Nic Seeary, Josh Newton and Sam Williams are others to have performed well during the season and shape as other match-winners for Bulldogs.

Tigers' goals are likely to come from Zach Salmi, Brenton Holden and Luke Cowen with the trio contributing 30 between them in season 2008.

Ryan Folkes is usually quick to the ball and uses it well, while Ben Powell, Zach Salmi, Josh Limbourne and BJ Holden can make the Bulldogs pay with big performances tonight.
