Winners hard to find

22/08/2008 9:35:00 AM
Two finals matches where, on form, results could go either way take place in the RegionalOne Lexton Plains Football League this weekend.

The second semi final between Rokewood-Corindhap and Carngham-Linton is being played at Rokewood tomorrow, while Skipton and Illabarook clash on Sunday in the first semi final at Smythesdale.

Rokewood-Corindhap is undefeated this season, but will not have faced a team as intense as Carngham-Linton in finals time.

The Saints had a strong win over Skipton last Saturday, and will go into this match fully comfortable in the knowledge of what they are capable of.

Potential winners all over the ground makes the Saints a very hard team to match up on, with Matt Stasse the key to their success.

Adam McLean, Tim Clarke and Simon Jamieson all have their jobs to do, and these are done with no fuss, but plenty of grunt.

Rokewood-Corindhap has proved the better of all teams to this point, and with James McNamee at the helm, will be only too aware of what to expect tomorrow.

Some key recruits from the start of the year have proved invaluable, including Jason Hutchins off half back, Xavier Ryan at half forward and Zac Fulford in the midfield.

Fitness is a big key to the Grasshoppers' chances, and you can be assured the team will be physically ready for the clash.

But will they be mentally prepared?

Carngham-Linton can intimidate even before the opening bounce, and this will be a key to the result.

As good as the Saints were last weekend, Rokewood-Corindhap has been as good during the year.

The Grasshoppers have yet to prove themselves under finals pressure, and at home will have the perfect opportunity to put their hand up and be counted.

Illabarook goes into its first semi final match in ten years of the LPFL, and finds itself with a home final against Skipton.

The Bulldogs come off a morale boosting win over Navarre, but Skipton is definitely a different prospect.

The Emus surely could not be as bad as they were last week.

If they are the Emus could, for a second year in a row, leave the finals series in straight sets.

Injuries could play a part in Skipton's hopes, and though it may be a reason, it will not be an excuse if they are to lose this.

Another season of again not being too flashy had Skipton in good stead for the finals, but a hiccup last week showed not only are they human, but also very vulnerable.

Paul Keirl has been good since coming into the senior side during the year, as have Danny George and Brett Conroy all year.

Illabarook will go into this with confidence, but knowing also the simplicity of the situation.

Lose and they are finished, win and a preliminary final beckons, and who knows what could happen.

Losing by only one point last time they met, the Bulldogs are not far off the pace on their day.

A lot of hope rides on the shoulders of Steven Tung, Sam Gudgeon and Wes Brown.

Skipton is a harder opponent than last week, whereas for Skipton, it is not playing Carngham-Linton Sunday.

History tells us it will be a Skipton win, but beware the raging Bulldogs.
